Microdermabrasion - An Introduction
Microdermabrasion is often called a “lunch hour” treatment because it’s a quick procedure that can be performed at a MediSpa during your lunch hour with little or no discomfort. It’s usually done to the face, chest, neck, arms or hands. Before we can understand how Microdermabrasion does what it does, it’s important to understand how skin works.
What does Microdermabrasion do for the Skin?
The healing process brings with it newer skin cells that look and feel smoother. Some of the skin’s visible imperfections, like sun damage, blemishes and fine lines, are significantly reduced. Also, without the stratum corneum acting as a barrier, medicinal creams and lotions are more effective because more of their active ingredients and moisture can find their way down to the lower layers of skin.
Microdermabrasion can treat the following:
- Dull Skin
- Skin Texture
When you type in Microdermabrasion you will see several options but the two biggest ones are Crystal and Diamond Microdermabrasion.
How The Crystal Microdermabrasion Treatment Works
The Crystal Microdermabrasion is classified as an ‘ablative’ treatment. This term “ablation” is understood as a process which removes the outer surface of dead skin cells by making a forceful use of heat and friction.
Crystal Microdermabrasion works by utilizing a special, hand held, device which causes a high speed flow of aluminum oxide crystals to be released upon your skin at a very high temperature and rate. As dead skin cells and dirt are “blasted” off of your face, the system uses a vacuum effect to suck up and store this unwanted dross. Though an effective way to perform Microdermabrasion, the Crystal Microdermabrasion system does not provide the effective results that a Diamond Microdermabrasion does.
How The Diamond Microdermabrasion System Works
The Diamond Microdermabrasion treatment is best defined as working by means of a process of abrasion. Think of abrasion as a process of grating against the surface and essentially “sanding” away dead skin from the surface of your skin. A Diamond Microdermabrasion treatment will use a special, diamond tipped, “wand” device, which will be used to “sand” away dead skin cells and dirt from the surface of your face.
Meanwhile, much like the method used in the Crystal Microdermabrasion process, a special vacuum device will complete the process by sucking away all of the dirt and dead skin cells that are brought to the surface during the Diamond Microdermabrasion treatment. This method is more comfortable for clients as it is less abrasive and more exfoliating. The suction on the Diamond Microdermabrasion system is gentle but effective in providing desirable results such as reduction of hyperpigmentation and minimizing pores.
At Laserlicious, we use a Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion system to provide, safe, comfortable and efficient results. Microdermabrasion helps produce thicker, healthier skin layers; multiple treatments are vital because they encourage the production of a new layer of skin cells that contains higher levels of collagen and elastin. Both of these components are essential for vibrant, healthy skin, and they will further improve your complexion and the overall appearance of your skin.
Why Choose Us?
We use a Diamond Tip Microdermabrasion system which allows optimum exfoliation and removal of dead skin. Microdermabrasion works especially well as a way to clean out clogged pores. It is a favourite among clients as it a quick and efficient treatment with little to no down time. Though Microdermabrasion is a great treatment we always advise our clients if they are good candidates for the treatment. Clients safety and results are always our top priorities.
